April 3, 2024: While most of the Bronxville School was off last week for spring break, the athletes participating in spring sports were working as hard as ever. LoHud recently published its lists of Players to Watch, and for a small school, Bronxville had fourteen players named to the lists for boys’ tennis, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse and baseball.

The Bronxville girls’ lacrosse team has been a Class D powerhouse in New York State winning the State Championship in 2022 and finishing as the state runner-up in every Championship since 2017.  The team graduated three seniors who now play D1 lacrosse in college, but this year’s team is still loaded with talent. Four of the team members were recently named to LoHud’s Players to Watch list: Sophomore Charlotte Murray (MF), sophomore Quinn Sheehan (D), sophomore Rose Woolery (MF), and junior Amy Villanueva (MF).

In the most recent girls’ lacrosse LoHud Power Rankings, the Class D Broncos are seeded No. 9 among all schools in Classes A-D. As is typical, Bronxville’s regular season games are against the top schools in Section 1 regardless of class.

The Bronxville girls’ team has faced some stiff competition in the first week of the season. They opened at home last Thursday with a 7-5 loss to No. 5 Yorktown and a 14-5 loss to No. 2 Nyack. They bounced back with a 6-5 win against North Shore on Saturday with Amy Villanueva scoring three goals and Charlotte Murray, Kendall Valente, and Ellie Garofalo scoring one apiece.

Last week, the girls had a team-bonding Media Day to produce studio-type photos for media promotion. Parent Joe Villanueva and Bronxville photographer David Fenner teamed up to organize and capture a variety of individual and group photos.

“It’s becoming more and more common for high school teams to do this,” said Fenner. “I have long wanted to do this sort of thing in Bronxville, and I was happy to help out.”
