Jan. 31, 2024: It was an incredibly successful week for the Bronxville indoor track and field teams who won their respective League 3B Championships on January 21^st, and six days later proved they were the best in Class C at the Westchester County Championships.

The Bronxville boys overwhelmed the Class C competition at Leagues, placing first with 171 points followed by Albertus with 127 and Irvington with 105.  At Counties, the boys’ team also placed first in Class C with 90.2 points, followed by Irvington (85), Briarcliff (63.7), and Pleasantville (58.5).

At the League 3B meet, the Broncos placed first in 7 of the 14 events, had 18 top three finishes, and even set one school record. Alex Napolitano, returning after recovering from a football injury, set a Bronxville School record in the weight throw (47-0.5) and broke his own record a week later at the County meet with a throw of 50-2.75.

At Counties, the Bronxville boys again exceled in both track and field events winning four Westchester County Titles.  Kieran McBride placed first in the 1600m in a time of 4:28.74, and later in the day, joined forces with Julian Gonzalez, Luke Corr, and Jack Toal in the 4x800m relay team to capture first place in 8:26.22, defeating New Rochelle by 3.5 seconds. 

Wyatt Gravier won two County Titles for the Broncos. He placed first in the 55m hurdles in 7.75 and also won the high jump (6-0).  Davis Patterson placed 3^rd in the 300m with a time of 35.74 breaking his own school record.  These top finishes helped the Broncos place 4^th overall behind Horace Greeley, Somers and New Rochelle.

The Bronxville girls’ team placed first at the League 3B Championship with 188 points followed by Hastings with 100 and Albertus Magnus with 68.  At Counties, the Broncos won the Class C title with 90 points with Hastings placing second (63) and Pleasantville third (59).

“We have a young team, but they work really hard and it's showing off this year,” said Head Coach Alex Barraco.  “We won the League Championships by over 80 points which is hard to do in track.”

In a strong showing at Leagues, the Bronxville girls won nine of the 13 events and had 18 top three finishes.

“We've had a number of girls try long jumping, high jumping, and pole vault this year,” added Coach Barraco.  “This emphasis on field events is really helping our team. In the League Championship, we had an athlete place in all jumping events and pole vault.”

As usual, the Bronco girls had great success in the relays. Both the 4x800m relay team (Maddy Williams, Carina Winiecki, Meghan Curran, Caitlin Paisley) and the 4x200m relay team (Juliet Winiecki, Eva Mihova, Kara Kochansky, and Carson Kochansky) placed first and the 4x400m team (Ella McCalla, Charlotte Murray, Charlotte O'Friel, Colette Ungvary) placed 2^nd.

At Counties, sophomore Kara Kochansky had the best performance for the Broncos with a second-place finish in the 300m (41.15). Her time may be enough to get her into the State Championship and is very close to breaking a school record.

Kochansky teamed up with her sister Carson, Ella McCalla, and Eva Mihova in 4x400m relay placing 3^rd overall in 4:12.43. Maddy Williams finished 4^th overall in the 1000m in 3:06.83.
