Nov. 15, 2023: After winning their respective Class C Section 1 Championship last week, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams headed to Verona on Saturday to compete in the New York State Championships. The boys’ team, the defending Class C Champion, placed 2nd, and the girls’ team placed 3rd.
The boys’ team lost to a very strong East Aurora team by a score of 49-86 and was the only Section 1 boys’ cross country team to make it to the podium. East Aurora also won the girls’ race with five runners finishing in the top 11. For the girls, East Aurora scored 22 points, Adirondack placed second with 77, and Bronxville was close behind with 79.
Kieran McBride was first to cross the finish line for the Broncos and placed 19th in the Class C race in a time of 17:03.10. Also scoring were Jack Toal, 28th, 17:23.50, Julian Gonzalez, 45th, 17:48.00, Matthew Jensen, 47th, 17:49.50, and Luke Corr, 64th,18:10.70, who had a season’s best time. Running 6th and 7th for the team were Nate Deutsch (87th, 18:34.20) and Will Hogue (121st, 19:35.90).

Maddy Williams had a strong finish placing 6th overall in Class C in a season’s best time of 19:29.50. Teammate Carina Winiecki placed 21st in 20:17.9 and Meghan Curran placed 30th in 20:34.50, both with season’s best times. Charlotte Black finished 47th (21:30.90) and Fiona Keveney finished 69th (22:12.90), rounding out the scoring for the Broncos. Running 6th and 7th for the team were Ella McCalla (78th, 22:27.50) and Charlotte Murray (79th, 22:27.50).

It has been an incredibly successful season for the Bronxville cross country teams winning their respective County and Sectional Championships. The future looks bright as each team only graduates one senior.
