Sep. 16, 2015: Bronxville's third annual Salute to Seniors Day will be held on Saturday, September 26.
This day-long celebration of our local seniors is co-sponsored by the Senior Citizens Council, Bronxville Senior Citizens, and Gramatan Village with support from the Village of Bronxville, NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital, The Community Fund, and the Bronxville Rotary.
Festivities begin at 10:00 am on the lawn of the Bronxville High School (rain location: Bronxville Village Hall). Mayor Mary Marvin and sponsoring organizations will offer remarks followed by light refreshments. A number of community organizations will have informational tables on Pondfield Road, and many local businesses will offer "silver" discounts and specials for seniors.
At 3:00 pm, the Bronxville Library will welcome the public to a "speeders" art show (featuring the work of artists 55 or older) and an opening reception with raffle. Admission is free and walk-ins are welcome.
All are encouraged to join this special day for our older friends and relatives. It's a great way to learn about community resources and services that support older residents and is especially valuable for those who may be new to the area or concerned about an aging parent or friend.
Salute to Seniors Day marks the beginning of Active Aging Week, a week-long celebration of aging and active living. Active Aging Week is sponsored by the International Council on Active Aging and takes place this year from September 27 through October 3.
