To the Editor:
July 27, 2023: This letter is to thank the Eastchester EMS, Fire and Police departments who responded to a 911 call within minutes. The professionalism and concern they showed was truly reassuring.
What brought them to my aid was that I choked on a bite of shrimp. My friends tried the Heimlich and pounded on my back. That wasn’t working so they put me over a chair and again whacked my back. Finally, the shrimp came up and I could breathe again. Wow, was that scary.
The purpose of this letter is to thank the team that arrived to help me and to thank our community for having wonderful civic workers who respond ASAP when called. The team that arrived were terrific and did their job by checking that I didn’t pass out at any time and that I was truly back to normal.
We are most fortunate to live in this wonderful community with great services especially for older adults. I often thought if this had happened to me when I was out in the country, I probably would not have made it by the time the professionals arrived.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the names of the workers who came to my rescue, so I just want to say a big THANK YOU to all the staff of EMS, Fire and Police departments. We need you and appreciate all you do for our community.
Sincerely,
Kerry Walsh
