Dear neighbors,

I hope this message finds you all enjoying the beautiful spring season in Bronxville.  I am writing to ask for your support in the upcoming School Board election on May 16th.  As a School Board candidate and a resident of Bronxville, I would be honored to have your vote.  The election will take place at the School or you can apply to request an absentee ballot.

As a vetted and endorsed candidate of the Bronxville Non-Partisan Committee (“NPC”), I would welcome the opportunity to serve our community.  Several friends and neighbors have asked me why the seat I am running for is contested while the other seat only has one candidate.  It’s important to note that the School Board election process in Bronxville is unique, as candidates must select the trustee seat they are running for.  This year, the seat I’m running for is contested, which is why it’s crucial that we have a high voter turnout.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a mom of four children (Emma is in 3rd, William in 1st, George is in the 4’s at RCNS, and Jack in the 3’s at RCNS).  My husband is Will; we met in college.  We have lived in Bronxville since 2018 (though before a stint in London we also lived in the Bronxville PO, Mt. Vernon Schools, from 2014-2016).  As a family we’ve been active in our community in a range of areas, including attending St. Joe’s Church (where I also teach CCD), as members of the Bronxville Field Club, and in the course of volunteering as a class parent.

I think Bronxville is one of—if not the best—places in America to raise kids and find community.  For that reason, I am thrilled to be considered for the School Board and put my background in public policy, law, and academia to good use in service of our town.

If elected, I intend to leverage my professional experience to serve the Board’s needs navigating financial, legal, and student-oriented challenges for the next three years.  I’m a law professor with an appointment in a business school—The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.   In that capacity, I teach and mentor undergraduates, MBAs, and law students, serve on academic committees, publish in academic journals, advise central banks and national legislatures, and regularly speak to the financial press. 

The upshot of this professional background is that my deep experience as an academic makes me attuned to, and familiar with, the dynamics of and challenges presented to an elite institution like the Bronxville School.  My work in policy and government gives me a depth of experience with institutional governance and public finance.  My career-path has always been international; and so I am also well aware of the global environment through which our students will need to navigate their careers.  I am a strong communicator, and can thus continue the excellent tradition of transparency from the Board to the community.

On a personal note, I’m a first generation American—my father was born in Cuba—and I have always felt strongly about the value of diverse perspectives and viewpoints.  I am an ardent believer in the importance of education together with grit, which allows students to harness their individual talents to pursue meaningful purpose.  For these reasons, I have tremendous respect for the language in the Bronxville Promise and am committed to fortifying it further.
