March 16, 2023: Tipsy Taco Bar, located at 56 Garth Road in Scarsdale (914-574-6242), is a welcome addition to Westchester's Mexican restaurants.
This fun and lively eatery has a large wrap-around bar and lots of dining space. Large colorful murals grace the walls, along with two-tone wood accents.
The Owner/General Manager, Milton Torres from Ecuador, has a winner here with very inventive food oozing with flavor and attractive presentation.
The tacos are individually sized, open-faced corn tortillas with many combinations from which to choose. We sampled the Al Pastor, which is slow braised pork shoulder, grilled pineapple, cilantro, and lime; Pork Belly, which is ancho chile rubbed and braised with pickled red onion and Baja Fish, which is Corona battered cod with pickled red onions.
A spectacular Appetizer is the Sweet Stuffed Plantain. It is rum flavored and is lit at your table. It's both showy and delicious.
Next, we had the Enchiladas Verdes with spicy salsa, organic chicken, and queso oaxaca, served with a small side of tasty rice and beans.
The Atlantic Shrimp Quesadilla with crispy corn tortillas is filled with plump shrimp, cabbage slaw, pico de gallo, crema, and Tipsy Taco blend. It was delicious and a great choice.
To finish our positive dining experience, we enjoyed the Mexican Flan, which is solid in texture and topped with whipped cream and toasted coconut.
Choose a traditional Margarita or a frozen one. They are served in a glass with a flashing colored light at the bottom.
Service was prompt, and I recommend ordering your courses separately to savor each one. Portions are generous, and the waitstaff, wearing whimsical black tee shirts adorned with a Skull on the front, are friendly and pleased to take care of you.
