Feb. 1, 2023: It has been a winning season for the Bronxville indoor track and field teams, and they continued their success this past weekend. Competing against 26 schools of all sizes at the Westchester County Championships, both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished second. For the girls’ teams, Ursuline took first place soring 62 points and edged out the Bronxville girls who scored 60. For the boys’ teams, Horace Greely won the Count meet by scoring 79 points, and Bronxville was next in line with 53 points.

Coach Brian Halling was thrilled with the results and summed up the Bronxville results on Twitter (@bxvboystrack): “Absolutely unbelievable night at the County Championship. 19 personal bests, 12 top 3 finishers, 7 county champs, 7 national qualifiers, and 2 school records led to 2nd place finishes on the boys’ and girls’ side. We are so proud!”

Two individual Bronxville athletes won Westchester County titles. Pole vaulter Max Dicker won Counties with a 13-0 jump, and middle-distance runner Maddy Williams won the 1500m in a season’s best time of 4:46.27.

The girls’ 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams also won Counties and both teams finished well ahead of the competition. In the 4x200m, Juliet Winiecki, Mai Ly Reinking, Kara Kochansky and Danielle Dragoni ran a 1:44.35 finishing almost six seconds ahead of 2nd-place Mount Vernon. They set a new school record and are currently ranked 4th in New York.

The 4x800m relay team, Hope Hershberg, Maddy Stupart, Katie O'Hare, and Maddy Williams, placed first in a time of 9:57.61, well ahead of 2nd-place New Rochelle who finished in 10:04.69.

The Bronxville girls’ relay teams came close to sweeping, but the 4x400m team, the same four who ran the 4x200m, was edged out by Ursuline. The Broncos ran a 4:10.56 falling just short of Ursuline’s 4:10.50.

Other notable finishes included Kara Kochansky’s 3rd place finish in the 300m (42.44), Maddy Stupart’s 5th place finish in the 1000m (3:09.86), and Danielle Dragoni’s 3rd place finish in the 55m dash.  Dragoni’s time of 7.42 set a new Bronxville School record.

In field events, Juliet Winiecki placed 2nd in the long jump in 16-4.

On the boys’ side, Ellis Goodson placed second in the 1000m in a season’s best time of 2:32.54, and the 4x400m relay team of Dash Kwan, Javier Tomala-Reidel, Jaime Valdez, and Gavin Benton placed 2nd in 3:36.67.

In field events, Finn Sands took 3rd place in the high jump (5-10), and Chris Lockwood placed 3rd in the shot put (41-2.75). Lockwood also set a new school record in the weight throw (44-2.25).

The Broncos will head to Staten Island this coming weekend for the Ocean Breeze Invitational.

Go Broncos.
