Dec. 7, 2022: At the sports awards evening held on November 28^th, Bronxville School varsity athletes were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments during the fall season. Forty-one Broncos were given All-League awards, 12 were honored with All-Section or All-Section Honorable Mention recognition, and four Bronxville athletes were named All-State.

In addition, the Bronxville boys’ cross country team made history by winning its first ever New York State Championship, and tennis player Victoria McEnroe was the first Bronxville girl to win the New York State Singles Championship.

The Bronxville teams battled right through the regular season and into the playoffs. The field hockey team (11-6-3) won the Class C Sectional Final before falling to Hoosick Falls in the Regionals, and the boys’ soccer team (17-2-1) lost in overtime in the Sectional Final to Briarcliff who finished 5^th in the state.  

 The girls’ soccer team (4-10-3) played their most competitive schedule ever, playing Class A State Champion Albertus Magnus and Class B State Champion Irvington twice each during the regular season. In a rebuilding year, the team gained experience and tied Irvington 0-0 toward the end of the regular season.  The football team’s 1-8 record does not really tell the story of the Broncos’ season where every game was lost by one possession or in overtime, including an overtime loss to Class B State Finalist Pleasantville.

During the Sports Awards Ceremony, Coach Steve Klurfeld summed up his remarks about the value of sports with a quote from tennis legend Billie Jean King.

“Sports teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose-it teaches you about life.”
