Oct. 26, 2022: Bronxville School Board Chair Susan Conniff opened the October meeting of the Bronxville Board of Education by discussing the Board's Communication Survey.  She noted that around 195 people responded, and 40 people shared additional comments. Ms. Coniff said that the survey results indicated that people want regular substantive communication from the Board and regular reminders about the District's goals.  The Board is digesting the Survey results and will share additional feedback in an upcoming meeting.

Ms. Conniff also discussed the following:

1) The Board will work to ensure a smooth transition to Interim Superintendent Rachel Kelly.
2) The Superintendent search process is moving along. The Board will meet semifinalist candidates in mid-November and will conduct interviews in early December.
3) There will be a Community Reception for Dr. Montesano on December 22nd.
4) The Board Advisory Committee is developing recommendations on diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Dr. Montesano reported that science teacher Stephen Kovari is doing research on Climate Change in the Hudson Estuary - Past, Present, and Future.

Bronxville senior Isabella Fenner, the student representative to the Board, gave an update on school life. Clubs are active, and classes are in full swing. There are no more zoom classes. Homecoming was in September with traditional events, including the bonfire, pep rally, and games under the lights. In addition, there were fun centennial celebrations, including photo and art galleries, speakers, and school tours for alumni. Ms. Fenner also reported that seniors and juniors are mentoring first-year students entering high school, that it is college application time for seniors, and that the Guidance Department has been very helpful.

Assistant Superintendent for Business, Dan Carlin, reported that YTD through September, School expenditures are on target. He said there is cost pressure in certain areas, including energy and some related contractual areas; however, he thinks these can be addressed without impacting programs. On the revenue side, non-resident income and interest income will exceed budget expectations.

Carlin also provided a brief "facilities" update. He noted that there is a five-year plan that will undergo analysis and prioritization with the facilities committee and the Board to determine the next project, which he expects is a few years off. Finally, Carlin reported that the School has secured a new bus and is looking for weekday drivers.
