Sept. 28, 2022: Bronxville High School’s Homecoming festivities concluded on Saturday after a week of games and Homecoming activities. The lights were up all week for JV and varsity games, and on Thursday during the field hockey game, the food trucks that were parked next to the field brought out many members of the community.  Click here to see a photo gallery.

During the week, the Broncos created team banners, marched in a parade, dressed in costumes that started with the letter “B”, and the field hockey team gathered together to repaint the Midland Avenue shed with a Western theme. At the start of every varsity Homecoming game, seniors welcomed their parents to the field with flowers.

While there were many games during the week, the Bronxville football team’s game against Pleasantville on Saturday night turned out to be the most exciting game of Homecoming. The Panthers, who were the 2021 Class B State Runner-up, started this season as the Class B favorite, and the underdog Broncos fought hard to the end, losing the game 21-14 in overtime.

In that game, Pleasantville took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a touchdown by Daniel Picart, but the Broncos came back and scored in the second quarter on a long touchdown pass from quarterback Connor Kenny to receiver Pierce Patterson. Bronxville was unsuccessful with the two-point conversion, and the teams went into halftime with the score at 7-6.

In the third quarter, Pleasantville scored a second time as quarterback Aidan Picart and brother Daniel teamed up to move the ball on the ground and in the air. The Panthers took a 14-6 lead but that was all they would get in the second half as the Bronxville defense sharpened up and was able to shut Pleasantville down for remainder of regulation time.

The Bronco offense moved the ball on the ground well in the first half and stepped up their passing game in the second.  They drove the ball deep into Pleasantville territory twice without scoring, but late in the fourth quarter a four-minute Bronco drive ended with a touchdown pass from Kenny to Owen Atkeson.  The two-point conversion from Kenny to Jack Newton tied it up 14-14 and sent the game into overtime.

Pleasantville had first possession starting on the Bronco 25, and Daniel Picart quickly scored for the Panthers.  In Bronxville’s overtime drive, a pass from Kenny to Owen Atkeson moved the ball to first and goal, but despite several passes into the end zone, the Broncos were unable to score.

The Bronco offense had strong contributions from running backs Newton, Davis Patterson, and Gabe Maicon and wide receivers Pierce Patterson and Benji and Owen Atkeson.   The offensive line, Eamonn O’Reilly, Chris Scotti, Joseph Matthews, Alex Chrostowski, and Matt McSherry, played a tremendous game.
