March 30, 2022: The Bronxville girls’ lacrosse team returns this season with lots of talent and experience. The five returning seniors, Bridget Finley, Caroline Ircha, Megan Krestinski, Molly Krestinski, and Kiki Tormey, were named All-Section last season, and Ircha and Megan Krestinski were honored with All-American recognition. The Broncos finished the abbreviated 2021 season with a 15-0 record and a Class D Section 1 Championship.

In Lohud’s Preseason Power Rankings published this week, the Broncos were named the No. 1 team in all of Section 1 beating out much larger schools and traditional powerhouses like North Rockland, Suffern and John Jay-Cross River. In addition, three Bronxville players, Megan and Molly Krestinski and Caroline Ircha, were named to LoHud’s Elite 11, which recognizes the best players in all of Westchester, Rockland and Putnam Counties. Kiki Tormey and Bridget Finley were on LoHud’s “Best of the Rest” list.

This spring, the Broncos should be positioned to go deep into the playoffs. The New York State Championships were canceled in 2020 and 2021 so this will be the first opportunity for the Bronco girls to compete at the state level in three years. In 2019, the Broncos made it all the way to the State Championship game before losing to Long Island’s Mattituck-Southold.

There are many returning players on this year’s team, but on the sidelines, there is a new head coach. Athletic Director Joe Haven takes over the top spot replacing long-time coach, Sharon Robinson, who has moved on to coach lacrosse at Sacred Heart in Greenwich.

The Broncos opened last week with a decisive 17-5 victory over Scarsdale. In that game, Megan Krestinski was the top scorer with 5 goals, followed by Ircha with 4 and Catherine Berkery with 3.

On Saturday the Broncos traveled to Long Island to face a talented North Shore team. Bronxville defeated the Vikings 9-7 with scores from Ircha (3), Megan Krestinski (2), Tormey (2), Finley (1), and Berkery (1). Goalie Olivia Shinsato had nine saves.

The Broncos showed their offensive strength in the 17-5 win over Somers yesterday. Seven different Broncos scored: Finley (5), Molly Krestinski (4), Ircha (3), Megan Krestinski (2) and KiKi Tormey, Evy Henningson and Katelin Pettee added one each

The Bronco’s spring schedule is packed with top competition. Class D Bronxville will play regular season games against John Jay-Cross River, Suffern, North Rockland, Yorktown, Hendrik Hudson and Mamaroneck, all teams that are ranked top ten in Section 1. The Broncos will play at home tomorrow against North Rockland at 4:30.

Go Broncos.
