March 2, 2022: The Bronxville boys’ basketball team advanced to the Class B Sectional Semifinals with a solid 54-42 victory over Putnam Valley on Saturday with scoring from Chris Kelty (17pts), Teddy Dolan (11), and Sean McGrath (11).  The Broncos are the number one seed in Class B and will face No. 4 Edgemont today at home at 6:30. Edgemont earned a spot in the semifinal game with a 56-43 win over Rye Neck. Tonight’s game can be viewed at https://events.locallive.tv/school/bronxville-hs.

This will not be the first time that Bronxville has seen Edgemont this season. In mid-January, the Broncos defeated Edgemont 61-53, but the Panthers had the upper hand in a regular season game in February defeating Bronxville 59-56. The winner of the Bronxville/Edgemont game will play against the winner of Briarcliff /Hastings game at Yorktown High School on Saturday. Briarcliff is the No. 2 seed and Hastings is No. 3.

The 18-4 Broncos have had a strong season and received the No. 1 seed for the first time since 1982. In mid-January, senior Chris Kelty scored his 1000th career point and became the fourth player in Bronxville boys’ basketball history to have hit that milestone.  He was recently awarded All-Section, All-Conference, and All-League MVP honors. Recognition was also given to teammates Sean McGrath who earned All-Conference and All-League honors, and Teddy Dolan who was awarded All-League.

Coach Bobby Russo was recently named Coach of the Year for Conference 3. Conference 3 includes all Class B, C, and D schools in Section 1. Russo has been the head coach at Bronxville for five years, and Ralph Russo, his father, is the assistant coach. Russo played basketball at Archbishop Stepinac High School, and prior to coming to Bronxville, he coached at his alma mater.
