Feb. 16, 2022: The Bronxville Middle School squash team traveled this past weekend to Philadelphia to compete in the 2022 U.S. Middle School Team Squash Championships. Bronxville sent three teams, a total of fifteen players, to the event, more than any other school.

Thirty-four teams from across the country participated in the tournament. Bronxville’s first team competed in Division I and finished with a 2-2 record, defeating The Haverford School and The University School in exciting, hard-fought matches. The team lost in a close 2-3 match to Darien in the consolation finals, placing 10th in the Division I championship. This team was made up of eighth-graders Serena Lescott, Troy Neild, Kai Schubert and John Shah, and seventh-grader William Glaser.

The team advanced to the consolation finals before falling to Rye in a close match ending 2-3. This team included eighth-graders Matteo DelPrete and Spencer Martin, seventh-graders Caroline Cregan and Maggie Miner, and sixth-grader Piper Pytosh.

“It was so nice seeing all of the kids give their best on the court,” said coach Julia Le Coq. “They all had a great team spirit. We have something great going on.”

This tournament comes on the heels of the FairWest Jamboree on February 5th where Bronxville teammates Matteo DelPrete, William Glaser, Maggie Miner, Piper Pytosh and Kai Schubert finished 3-0 against competing teams from Greenwich, Darien and Rye.

The middle school team is coached by pros from the Bronxville Field Club, Supreet Singh, Tunde Ajagbe and Julia Le Coq. The Bronxville School squash program is in its twelfth year and boasts a varsity and JV team of more than 30 players and a middle school team of 22 players.

Go Broncos.
