Feb. 2, 2022: During the blizzard on Saturday, two relays from the Bronxville girls’ track team headed to The Armory to compete in the 114th Millrose Games. Bronxville relay teams often qualify for this prestigious track event, but last year the Millrose Games were canceled because The Armory became a vaccination site.

The girls’ 4x400m relay placed 4th in a time of 4:05.24 and qualified for the New York State Championships. Milly Koenig ran the first leg in 1:00.98 followed by Maddy Stupart (1:01.58) and Donna Napolitano (1:02.44). Senior Captain Caroline Ircha ran the anchor leg in 1:00.26.  The team ran its season-best time but missed the qualifying time for Nationals by one second. They will have three more chances to improve their time before Nationals takes place on March 11-13th.

The 4x800m relay team placed 7th at the Millrose Games with a season-best time of 9:36.72, which gave them a qualifying time for the New Balance Nationals. Hope Hershberg opened with 2:25.64 leg and handed off to Maddy Williams who ran her leg in 2:23.02.  Katie O’Hare ran a 2:25.24 in the third position, and Ava Black anchored the race with a time of 2:22.84.

Last week at the Westchester County Championships, the Bronxville girls’ track and field team came in second place behind Lakeland/Panas when the Bronxville 4x400m relay team was disqualified based on a claim that a Bronxville runner had cut off a Lakeland/Panas runner. The ruling was made after the race when officials viewed an unauthorized video. Rules from the National Federation of State High School Associations do not allow video equipment other than the official finish line equipment to be used, so the disqualification of the Bronxville relay team was overturned last Wednesday. With that ruling, the Bronxville girls’ track and field team became the Westchester County Champions.
