Letter to the Community in Support of Candidates for Eastchester Town Board

To the Editor:

Oct. 27, 2021: The Bronxville Village Democratic Committee urges all residents of Bronxville, Tuckahoe, and Eastchester to vote on November 2 for Bronxville’s own Niamh Hartnett Merluccio and Eileen DeLucia for Town Council, and for John Eickemeyer for Town Supervisor.

Niamh, Eileen, and John are running as the Eastchester Now slate.  Their platform emphasizes intelligent planning, care for the environment, and inclusion for all residents. All three are exceptionally well qualified. John Eickemeyer is an attorney with many years of experience in Eastchester town affairs, including eleven years on the school board.  Eileen, also an attorney, has put in many hours on pro bono legal work and coaching soccer.  Niamh, a twenty-three-year resident of Bronxville and a speech pathologist, has served on the Bronxville Non-partisan Committee, and is Co—Chair of the Bronxville PTA’s Bold Committee. For more information please go to their website: https://www.eastchesternow.com/.

Why should anyone in Bronxville (or Tuckahoe or Eastchester) care about the Town election? The answer is that our daily lives are greatly affected by the environment in the Town overall.  Many of the roads we drive, the stores and shopping areas we visit, the parks where we take our children, and the resources we have available are determined or influenced by Town decisions. The tone of respect we should all have for each other is also influenced by leadership at the Town level.

More specifically, the Town will have enormous input into the future of the Vernon Hills shopping center. Likewise, the Town can influence the type of housing that is available. The Town has influence and some control over environmental decisions affecting parks, rivers, and streams. The Town provides services for senior citizens and operates Lake Isle. Just as important, the Town government sets standards for equality and inclusiveness for all residents. The Villages are an integral part of the Town.

The Eastchester Now team is ready to take a pro-active approach to Town planning and leadership.  Please vote for Niamh Hartnett Merluccio, Eileen DeLucia, and John Eickemeyer on Nov. 2, or on an early voting day.

Very truly yours,

The Bronxville Village Democratic Committee:
