Broncos Celebrate Homecoming This Week With Games Under Lights On Thursday and Saturday

Sept. 29, 2021: The Bronxville School celebrates Homecoming this week and has a great slate of varsity and junior varsity games lined up. The team banners are set up on the front lawn of the school, white and blue flags line Midland Avenue, and the lights on Chambers Field are ready to go.  The Bronxville varsity turf teams will play late afternoon and night games both tomorrow and Saturday. The Bronco parade and bonfire is today, and the community food truck night will be held from 4-9 on Thursday. 

Homecoming Week kicked off on Monday with an exciting win for the varsity field hockey team. In the competitive game against White Plains, the Broncos held a 2-1 lead at halftime, but the Tigers jumped ahead 3-2 during the second half. The Bronxville girls answered back quickly to tie the score and scored two more in the 4th quarter to seal the 5-3 victory. Scoring for the Broncos were Frannie Krause (3G), Carmen Phillips (2G), Isabela Fenner (3A), Ella Tuck (1A), and Hudson Zivic (1A). Goalie Sophia Costanzo had four saves.

The Broncos are ranked No. 9 in all of Section 1 according to LoHud.  They have a packed schedule this week and will play tomorrow at 4:30 against Croton, and on Saturday against Walter Panas at 3.

After suffering a loss to No. 1 Irvington on Monday, the Bronco boys’ soccer team (6-2-1) will be looking for a win on Thursday afternoon when they face local rival Tuckahoe. The Broncos, ranked No. 2 behind Irvington in League III-B, will also play on Saturday against Yonkers Montessori Academy at 2.

The girls’ soccer team is undefeated so far this season (6-0-1) and is ranked No. 1 in Class B. The team will play against No. 3 Irvington tomorrow evening with pregame player and parent instructions starting at 6:15. The girls’ team will also be featured on Saturday with a 4PM game against Yonkers Montessori Academy. The Bronxville girls’ soccer team is ranked No.6 in all of Section 1 by Lohud.

Saturday’s games will conclude with the Bronxville football team facing Westlake (1-2) on Chambers Field at 7PM. It is the fourth consecutive night game for the Broncos who opened with a win over Pearl River, but suffered back-to-back losses to Nanuet (26-8) and Ardsley (28-6) in the last two weeks.

Homecoming events off campus include the Manhattan College Cross Country Invitational, which will be held on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park. The Broncos competed at the Bowdoin Classic last weekend, and junior varsity runners Skylar Lau and William Hogue took first and second place, respectively. On the girls’ side, Ava Black came in 6th in the varsity race in 19:48.20, and Charlotte Murray and Kailee Fino placed 8th and 9th in the junior varsity race. 

The girls’ varsity swim team, who lost to Horace Greeley on Monday, had first place finishes in the 50 free (Keala Schubert (26.70), 100 breaststroke (Caroline Hardart, 1:23.31) and the 400 freestyle relay (Julia Reich, Marian Schafer, Faith Belke, Mae Rucci, 4:36.02).

The girls’ tennis team dressed as “Barbies” for Homecoming B-day. Last week the Broncos suffered a loss to a strong Byram Hills team, but defeated Mamaroneck on Friday to bring their record to 4-3.

The Broncos should have great weather for the all of the Homecoming festivities. The food trucks will be serving on Thursday evening, but the Bronco Barn and Grill will be open Saturday for all the games.
