Sept. 22, 2021: Last week, the Workers Gardeners of Bronxville planted a tree on the lawn of Bronxville Village Hall in honor of Anna Longobardo.
A longtime resident of Bronxville, Mrs. Longobardo, who passed away in 2020, was a graduate of the Columbia University Engineering program and subsequently made significant contributions to the field of aerospace engineering. She also became a Trustee of Columbia University.
Mrs. Longobardo also made significant contributions to the Bronxville community serving as Chairwoman of the Bronxville Design Review Committee and as Vice-Chairperson of the Village Planning Board for over two decades. Her son, Guy Longobardo, also a longtime Bronxville resident, has followed in her footsteps, serving in numerous positions in the Village over the years, including on the Village Board of Trustees.
Mrs. Longobardo had a lifelong love of trees. The plaque in her honor reads: "Planted as a Living Memorial: Anna Longobardo Jan. 8, 1928 - Dec. 7, 2020. Whose love of trees was only equaled by her loyal service to the community."
Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin spoke at the dedication and said, "Anna gave back to the community tenfold serving the village she’s so loved for 23 years as a member of the Planning Board and Design Review Committee . She brought her brilliant mind and caring heart to Village government and we will be eternally grateful for her contribution."
