Local Covid Report: Two Good Numbers

By Staff

May 19, 2021:  There are two good numbers to report in this week's Covid-19 report as well as some easing of Covid restrictions.

Covid Case Numbers & Vaccination

Covid-19 cases in Bronxville and in our nearby towns continue to decline and the number of people vaccinated in Westchester continues to go up.

As of May 17, 2021, there was only 1 Covid-19 case in Bronxville in the last 14 days and a total of 344 cases in Bronxville and nearby towns.  Cases are down by over 3,400 from their height on January 11, 2021.

Additionally, the NY State Vaccine Tracker indicates that as of May 18, 2021, 56.7% of the Westchester population had received "at least one vaccine dose" and 47.8% had completed their vaccine series.  People aged 12 and up are now authorized to get the vaccine in New York State.

It should be noted that while these are good numbers, Covid-19 remains a deadly disease.  As of May 17, 2021, there were 1,581 people hospitalized with Covid-19.  Of these, 387 were in ICU and of them, 228 were intubated. Sadly, 11 New Yorkers lost their lives to the virus on May 17, 2021.  The 7-day average positivity rate was 1.11 percent.

Easing of Covid-19 Restrictions

New York State has announced that, effective May 19th, the State is easing Covid-19 restrictions.  These changes generally relate to business mask rules, business capacity rules and event rules. Click here to see the rules set forth by New York State
