People of all Ages Participate in Community Clean-up In Bronxville

By Mary Mackintosh, Director of Missional Engagement, Reformed Church of Bronxville

May 5, 2021: Over 60 people of all ages, 7 to 70, gathered on Saturday, April 24 in honor of Earth Day for a community clean-up around Bronxville. The event was co-sponsored by the Reformed Church of Bronxville, the Village Green Committee and the Environmental Club of the Bronxville High School with the invaluable assistance of the Bronxville DPW staff. Participants met under the Elementary School canopy to sign in, collect gloves and trash bags and divide into groups to fan out across the Village in search of trash.

Participants were met with thanks, honks and waves by passersby and even offered free coffee from Scott and Katy, owners of Booskerdoo on Kraft Avenue. As Sam Clover, Associate Pastor at the Reformed Church said on Sunday, at first glance we noticed the big litter items around town, but a closer look revealed the many small bits of litter tossed aside, from bottle caps to cigarette butts to straw wrappers.

By all accounts, the first Village-wide clean up was a great success and should become an annual event. Legislator Ruth Walter, Trustee Mary Behrens and Village Administrator Jim Palmer were among the many caring citizens who lent a hand in making our Village a little more beautiful than it already is in springtime.
