Mar. 11, 2020: The Bronxville 4x400m relay team competed at the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
Milly Koenig, Caroline Ircha, Alisa Kanganis, and Eve Balseiro placed third, breaking the Bronxville School record for the second time this season.
In the final 4x400m heat, it was a hard fought battle for the top three teams. At the end of a very competitive and very fast race, Bishop Loughlin took top honors with a time of 3:51.46, just edging out Warwick Valley by just 21 hundredths of a second (3:51.67). Bronxville was close behind with a time of 3:52.78. All three teams ran times that beat the New York State meet record, which was set in 1994.
The Bronxville 4x400m team of Balseiro, Ircha, Kelly Weild, and Betsy Marshall placed first in the prelims to qualify Bronxville for the final heat. Their time, 3:56.75, moved them to 4th place on the All-Time Bronxville list.
In field events, Jules Gravier placed 8th in the pole vault (10-6), and Koenig placed 21st in the long jump (16-1.75).
The New York State Swimming Championships also took place this past weekend at the Nassau Aquatic Center. Bronxville senior Finn Seibold, who swims for the combined New Rochelle-Bronxville team, swam in two relays with teammates from New Rochelle.
The 200 yd medley relay, Seibold, Narmeri Franklyn, Myles Dower, and Jonathan Carsen, placed 7th among public schools and 10th in the Federation with a time of 1:38.16. Seibold, Dower, Carsen, and Matthew Pena, placed 15th among public schools in the 200 yd freestyle relay (1:29.74).
Spring sports began practice this week, but the Bronco girls have one more race before the indoor season ends. They will compete in the SMR at the New Balance Nationals Indoor this coming weekend.
