To the Editor:
Nov. 27, 2019: The Bronxville Democratic Committee extends its heartfelt congratulations to our own Ruth Walter on her election as the new Westchester County Legislator for District 15. Ruth and her team of supporters ran a spirited and hard-fought campaign over the course of many months, defeating a well-entrenched Republican incumbent from Yonkers. The election results were made final when her opponent withdrew his lawsuit on Monday of this week. The tally made clear that the Bronxville vote was the key to putting Ruth "over the top."
Ruth's win was clearly a "purple" victory, as many in Bronxville crossed party lines to vote for a Democrat. Nonetheless, the results do underscore the fact that as of this month, the Village of Bronxville has more registered Democrats than registered Republicans – a remarkable political milestone for an enclave that a generation ago had a 4 to 1 Republican majority (see The New York Times here).
Bronxville Democrats look forward to Ruth's service on issues including environmental concerns, local flooding, business improvement, stable taxes, and transparency in government. We are hopeful that Ruth's victory is a harbinger of future success at the local and national level.
