By Rebecca Portnoy, Communications Manager, Concordia College

Oct. 30, 2019:  Concordia College New York has announced the appointment of Dr. Mark Wahlers to a new position at the College: Chief Administrative Officer. He will join Concordia on November 4, 2019.

Dr. Wahlers will draw upon decades of experience to lead the implementation of Reimagine Concordia, the College’s strategic vision for meeting the future of higher education. Pillars of the vision include expansion and diversification of the College’s profitable partnership programs, building upon the excellence of the College’s health sciences, nursing, education and business programs, and strategically analyzing campus assets for reinvestment opportunities directly benefitting an increasingly diverse student body encompassing a variety of traditional undergraduates, graduate students and adult learners.

Dr. Wahlers comes to Concordia College New York from Concordia University Portland, where as Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, then University Provost, his leadership produced record enrollment increases, and the creation and execution of successful strategies touching nearly every area of the University. He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.S. in Education from Portland State University, and a B.S. in Secondary Education from Concordia College Seward.

Dr. Wahlers said: “I’ve been inspired by the way Concordia College’s leadership, staff and faculty show their commitment to preparing a truly diverse student body for meaningful lives and careers, and I am very excited to be part of the College’s continuing evolution. Rapid changes in the higher education and employment landscapes demand proactive adaptation, and I look forward to working with President Nunes on implementing Concordia’s future-focused strategic vision.”

Dr. John A. Nunes, President of Concordia College New York, said: “Dr. Wahlers is a proven leader with an exceptional record of success in all areas of higher education administration. His passion for student-centered, lifelong learning, understanding of our Lutheran Christian heritage and mission, and appreciation for strategic innovation match the values Concordia College New York holds dearly, and we are blessed to have him on board."

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
