By the Family
Mar. 28, 2018: Jane Bell Stoneking was born on May 8, 1961, and made it almost 57 trips around the sun. Her body wore out and her spirit and soul were set free on February 21, 2018.
In 1963, the Bell family moved to Bronxville, where Jane became involved in many activities throughout her youth. She sang in the church choir, she was a Girl Scout, and she excelled in many sports at The Bronxville School. Jane was a football cheerleader and a basketball player, she ran track, and she became district champion in the shot put in her senior year (Class of '79). She especially enjoyed field hockey and earned All-District and All-County honors. One of the greatest honors Jane earned as a senior at BHS was being voted by students and teachers to play the Virgin Mary at the annual village Christmas Eve pageant.
In 1969, Bill and Billie bought a historic dairy farm in Monterey, MA, for the family to enjoy. Because of her love for her extended family and the outdoors, this became one of Jane’s favorite places. Many of her Bronxville friends will recall trips to The Farm, painting, swimming at the pond, hiking, and jumping in the hay in the barns.
Jane decided to attend Penn State University after high school even though a lifelong Michigan fan. She loved college football and could throw a football farther than most men. An avid sportsperson, she enjoyed hiking, biking, snow skiing, and snowshoeing her whole life. Jane loved the beach and mountains. If there is beach or mountain in heaven, she is there.
A few years after graduating from Penn State, Jane went to work for Phibro Energy in Greenwich, CT. It is here that she met her husband, David. They were married in September of 1993, holding their celebration near Jane’s beloved farm in Massachusetts. Jaclyn was born in 1997, William in 1999, and Emma in 2005. Jane was a loving stepmother to Carl and Kevin. In 1995, Jane and David formed Gulf Energy Company. Her valuable insight and steady advice to David were immeasurable.
Children were Jane’s passion. She volunteered in the nursery at MD Anderson and did inventory for MDA’s children’s art project business in local stores. She was also very active in the children’s schools, holding many roles in the PTO over the years.
Predeceased by her mother, Billie, Jane is survived by her father, Bill; her husband and children; her sisters, Barbara, Betsy and Becky; her brothers, John and Robert; and many loving family members and friends. We all miss her but get comfort in the privilege of having known and loved her, thankful to have shared in the wonderful memories created.
Jane’s Bronxville friends are gathering at Pete’s Tavern in Bronxville on Saturday, May 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Please come!
