Bronco Athletes Honored at 2018 Winter Sports Awards Ceremony PDF Print Email

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer

Mar. 14, 2018: At the annual winter sports awards evening held on February 27 in the high school auditorium, Athletic Council presidents Caroline Kirby, Sally Reynolds, and Matt Crawford introduced the winter sports teams. Bronxville student-athletes were honored with All-American, All-State, All-Section, and All-League recognition, and special coaches’ awards were announced.

Over the course of the winter season, the Broncos athletes worked hard on their respective sports and also raised $3,000 for Hoops for Heroes, Elizabeth’s Hope, and the American Heart Association.

The winter sports awards evening was held before the end of the season, and some awards have yet to be announced. Also, the evening took place before the state championships.

At the New York State Swimming Championships, senior Andrew Babyak won four gold medals, two as an individual in the 200 and 500 free, and two more with teammates Tim Cushman, Finn Seibold, and Michael Lawson in the 200 free and 400 free relays.

Members of the indoor track and field team competed both at the New York State Championships and Nationals in early March. Matt and Alex Rizzo finished 4th and 6th in the 1000m at states and then closed out their indoor season with another great performance at New Balance Nationals. In the 800m, Matt placed 7th and Alex placed 14th, each setting a personal record. They also competed with Seamus Watters and Tommy O’Connell, placing 4th in the Emerging Elite Sprint Medley Relay.
