Jan. 3, 2018:  In 2017, one of the most popular stories was about the opening of a second turf field at The Bronxville School. Hayes Field opened in October and was immediately put to use during homecoming weekend. The story about homecoming was also a favorite with our readers and included photos of the field dedication and homecoming games. Other top stories featured accomplishments and awards received by Bronxville athletes. Finally, many Broncos continue to play in college, and there is always high interest in those stories. Below is a recap of the top sports stories of 2017. To see the full stories, click on the headlines below.

The highlight of homecoming weekend was the official dedication of the newly renovated Hayes Field. The flood mitigation project and the construction of the field lasted for over a year, but once the field was complete, it added much-needed space for the entire Bronxville School.

Winning gold is an outstanding accomplishment for Bronxville athletes. In swimming and indoor track, the Bronco athletes compete against the best in the state. In the winter, swimmer Andrew Babyak and runner Kaitlin Ryan each won gold medals in their respective Federation meets, which included schools of all sizes. In the spring, Ryan won gold in the 800m and, along with teammates Eve BalseiroCaroline Brashear, and Laura Holland, in the 4x800m relay. The girls’ lacrosse team came up short of winning gold but was the state runner-up after losing 12-11 in overtime to Skaneateles in the New York State Championship game.
