Nov. 15, 2017:   Jean Isbell Brunie, age 87, passed away on November 9, 2017. She died peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 18, 1930, in Houston to Joseph Isbell and Rebecca Wyatt Isbell, Jean spent her early childhood there before moving to Marietta, Georgia.

Jean graduated from Marietta High School and attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta. Her 1949 marriage to Thomas Corley ended in divorce. She moved to Bronxville in 1965 upon her marriage to Charles H. Brunie. Her children, Bill, Jean, and Ellen Corley, all attended and graduated from Bronxville High School.

Jean Brunie was a vibrant and active member of the Bronxville community, where she was much adored for her mellifluous Southern accent and personal charm.

For over forty years, Jean and Charles Brunie contributed to Bronxville’s social life, often entertaining their many friends at their home on Elm Rock Road. They belonged to Siwanoy Country Club and the Bronxville Field Club.

Jean was a longtime member of The Bronxville Junior League, as well as the Hi-Lo Investment Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of New York City, and The Reformed Church of Bronxville.

Mr. Brunie pre-deceased his wife in February of this year.

Jean Brunie was a devoted grandmother to her three grandsons, Alexander Yankus, Wyatt Yankus, and Cooper Corley. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her son-in-law, William Yankus, daughter-in-law, Catherine Corley, and granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Yankus.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 20, at The Reformed Church of Bronxville. A reception will follow at the Bronxville Field Club.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Senior Citizens of Bronxville or The Reformed Church of Bronxville.
