Apr. 5, 2017: The mid-March snowstorm delayed the start of outdoor practice this spring, but the late season snow, the cold weather, and the rain did not delay the start of the spring season. Last week, the boys' and girls' lacrosse teams opened with wins, and this week, baseball, golf, boys' tennis, and boys' and girls' track and field begin their respective seasons.
The Bronxville girls' lacrosse team, ranked No. 3 in all of Section 1 by LoHud, faced some stiff competition in last week's games but secured a big 14-10 win against No. 4 Somers on opening day. The Broncos also defeated Class A Scarsdale, 18-13. The Bronxville team, the regional champ in Class C for the past three years, has now been moved to the newly created Class D this season and looks to be one of the favorites to win a state championship. In the game on Monday against Class D opponent North Salem, Bronxville secured a 17-7 victory.
The Class D boys' lacrosse team also opened with competitive games, winning 10-7 over Class A Fox Lane and 12-6 over Staples-Westport, a much larger Connecticut school. The Broncos, ranked No. 9 in the LoHud power rankings, will play Iona Prep at home on Thursday.
The Bronxville School is on spring break next week, and both the girls' and boys' lacrosse teams head to Maryland to play. The girls will be playing Notre Dame Prep, Coach Sharon Robinson's alma matter, in the One Love Springfest.
The boys' golf team, which was undefeated last year, opened against Fordham Prep Monday with a 3-1-1 win and will compete in a tri-match against Blind Brook and Rye Neck on Wednesday.
In the opening outdoor track meet held on Monday against Edgemont and Clark Academy, the girls' team won every event except the 100m, and the boys looked good as well. Baseball's opener against Irvington was postponed, and mountain biking will race on Sunday at Blue Mountain.
