Mar. 29, 2017:  On Thursday, April 6, former Sarah Lawrence dean Jerrilynn Dodds, whose past lectures have been enthusiastically received, returns for a talk titled "Arts of the Revolution: Modern Arts in Cuba Before and After Fidel."

The lecture will be in the Yeager Room of the Bronxville Public Library from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

There is a long tradition in Cuba of connection between the arts and activism. This lecture will explore Cuban Modernism as one expression of Cuban identity before the 1959 Revolution, as well as the arts closely associated with the revolution. Finally, it will show how the unique arts of Cuba reflect an engaged and active community of artists through to today.

Jerrilynn Dodds, professor of the history of art at Sarah Lawrence College, is a widely published scholar as well as a consultant and a distinguished lecturer at the Metropolitan Museum's Grace Rainey Rogers auditorium. Lecturing there for over a decade on a wide range of topics, she has also taught at Columbia University, MIT, Harvard University, and the City University of New York.

Dodds has also curated and co-curated a number of exhibitions and written and directed films on the subject of cultural interaction as seen through art and architecture.

You can register for the lecture online at www.bronxvilleadultschool.org or by phone at 914-793-4435.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
