Spring Sports Start this Week: Follow the Broncos on Twitter PDF Print Email

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer

Mar. 29, 2017:  Looking for daily Bronxville High School sports information? For the last couple of years, the "unofficial twitter" of Bronco sports, @sports_broncos, reported scores, statistics, and game highlights and retweeted Bronco sports news, including articles from MyhometowntownBronxville (@MHTBXVsports). This Bronco Twitter account was started in May of 2014, but no one really knew who started and maintained the account.

Just this past winter, Anthony Vaglica, physical education teacher and newly appointed teacher liaison to the Athletic Council, decided to reach out to this "unofficial" Twitter account to see if they could work together. Much to Vaglica's surprise, @sports_broncos was happy and willing to turn over the account to the Athletic Council.

"I wasn't trying to take it over," said Vaglica, "I was just looking to work with them. We were looking for a way to enhance our website, and I thought the best way to get notifications out was through Twitter."

Vaglica, along with members of the Athletic Council, would like to further develop both the Twitter account and the Bronxville athletics website, www.bronxvilleathletics.com. He has emailed all the varsity coaches and hopes to get scores and highlights up on Twitter in a timely fashion. In the future, Vaglica also hopes to enhance the website by posting rosters, schedules, and game results.

Much will remain the same with the Twitter account, but now the "unofficial" account has become "The Official Twitter of Broncos Sports." While everyone is curious about who previously ran the account, it seems that the mystery owner will remain a mystery.

Over the last few years, the print media has significantly reduced coverage of high school sports; Twitter can fill in the gaps and sometimes even offer "live" updates of games. With spring sports starting up this week, follow the daily Bronco news on @sports_broncos or read the weekly story about Bronxville High School sports on MyHometownBronxville.com.

Go Broncos.
