Lots of Contributors on Hand to Celebrate the Refurbishment of Bicentennial Park PDF Print Email

Written by Staff

Sep. 24, 2014:  The fall weather proved ideal for an outdoor celebration on Saturday, September 20, of the refurbished Bicentennial Park located at the corner of Meadow Avenue and Pondfield Road.

Mayor Mary Marvin joined the crowd to cut the ribbon and also thanked members of the Boulder Ledge Garden Club, in particular, Neely Bower, for all the time and effort contributed over the last four years to removing the old overgrown vegetation and overseeing the planting of a beautiful new park. Joining Neely was the current president for the Boulder Ledge Garden Club, Sarah Coughlin Vorbach, and many other members of the club--all decked out in pink T-shirts.  Missing was landscape artisit Ani Adishian, whoe designed and oversaw the plantings..

Also on hand was Peter Bertine, who led the effort in the early 1980s to have the Bronxville Rotary Club pay for and oversee the creation of a vestibule park there for school students and residents. Bill Ellis, former chairman of the Bronxville Republican Party, was also on hand, as was former Mayor Marcia Lee.

The property, which was purchased by the village in 1977 after a hard-fought referendum, had remained undeveloped and had become an eyesore until Bertine took action.

It was purchased after a League of Women Voters study had shown that the small field was one of only three remaining open spaces in the village. The other two were the Rockpile on Beechtree Lane off Sagamore Road and the lot located next to the condominiums at 64 Sagamore Road. Both of those lots were subsequently acquired by the village. The Junior League of Bronxville later developed the Sagamore lot into a children's playground.

Vicki and Si Ford Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary With Six Children, Twenty Grandchildren and Many Friends: See Photos PDF Print Email

ford50th2010celebration025

August 8, 2010: Vicki and Si Ford celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their White Bear Lake home in Minnesota with over fifty guests in attendance flown in from all parts of the country and beyond. By anyone's standards, it was a smashing success.

Joining the festivities were their six children and spouses, 20 grandchildren, many extended family members, and members of their original wedding party--- all witness to the fact that family and friends have been an important part of the Ford's 50 years of marriage.

The celebration turned out to be a three-day affair.  On Friday night, when the guests arrived, a formal party for families was held. On Saturday, an early evening supper was hosted by Alex Bjorklund, Vicki's cousin.  Then on Sunday afternoon, a typical "Ford Event" gathered neighbors and all the families for a picnic, games (tug-of-war, flour bomb fight) face-painting and a scavenger hunt.

Vicki and Si have lived in Bronxville for well over thirty years and have participated and supported many organizations and colleges in the community (under statement). Vicki is the Eastchester Town Councilwoman from Bronxville having served in that capacity for over four terms, and Si, among many other things, is a former Eastchester Fire Commissioner.

A verse by Vicki from the wedding invitation reads as follows:

Remembering the time
With children and kin
A moment of quiet
Was found in the din.
The years all away
Without a trace
When briefly enfolded
In a loving embrace.
