Bronco Playoff Schedules and Results: Boys' and Girls' Basketball Teams Play in First Round of Playoffs at Home Today

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer

Feb. 17, 2016:  The Bronxville girls' and boys' basketball teams are making history today. For the first time, both Bronco teams have made it to the playoffs with home-court advantage, and both will play in the Main Gym later today. The No. 6 seed Bronco girls will face No. 11 Palisades Prep at 4:00 pm, and the No. 6 seed Bronco boys will play No. 11 Edgemont at 6:00 pm. It is school vacation week, and the Broncos may not have their usual fan base, so all community support is welcome. If the Broncos win, they will play on Saturday at the higher seed. Updates will be posted here.

Update: On Wednesday, February 17th, the boys' basketball team defeated Edgemont 57-42 and will head to No. 3 Blind Brook on Saturday for the quarterfinal round. The girls' team had a solid 49-21 win over Palisades Prep and will face No. 3 Woodlands on Saturday.

It will be a busy weekend for some members of the girls' track and field team. On Saturday, the Broncos will be well represented at the 109th Millrose Games. Kaitlin RyanCaroline Kirby, Laura Holland, and Kirsten Ircha will run in the high school 4x800m relay. The event will be broadcast on www.USATF.TV and the Bronco relay is set to run at 1:53 pm. On Sunday, the Bronco girls and boys will compete in the Section 1 indoor state qualifier.

Some Bronco athletes have already qualified for states. At the Section 1 swimming championships held last week, sophomore Andrew Babyak qualified for states with a fourth-place finish in the 500yd-free and a sixth-place finish in the individual medley, and freshman Tim Cushman quaified in the 100yd backstroke. The combined New Rochelle-Bronxville team will also send Babyak, Aidan Flannery, and New Rochelle swimmers John Freeman and Michael Lawson to the state championships to compete in the 400yd-free relay, and Babyak, Freeman, Lawson and Cushman will swim in the 200yd-free relay.

Competing at the U.S. National Championships in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, this past weekend, the Bronxville squash team placed sixth in Division IV. In the first round of the tournament, the Broncos defeated The Boys' Latin School of Maryland 5-2, but they lost in the second round to Canisius High School Gold. Competing at the meet were Charlie PreusseMcKenna StoltzSam AbukhadraAlexander SwensonWilliam CioffiHadley BarrLiv Cappello, and Sasha Capasso.

Go Broncos.
