Bronxville Farmers' Market Features Owners of Rich Brownies and Betsy's Bitties
Jun. 18, 2014: A new addition to the Bronxville Farmers' Market (BFM) is Rich Brownies & Betsy's Bitties. Betsy Rich had her own successful TV news production company until the economy tanked and the company unraveled and closed its doors.
Betsy, not being one to sit and smell the roses for too long, has always been a very active person, despite her trials with remitting relapsing MS for the past 25 years. Despite having this cross to bear, Betsy enjoyed being a happy horse owner and has taught and still teaches snowboarding to women at Windham Mountain.
Betsy's husband ski races and is a coach for the Adaptive Sports Foundation, which works with children and adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities and chronic illnesses. Their daughter is a professional snowboarder living in California and their son is a snow reporter at Monmouth Mountain.
After her news career, Betsy and her family spent more time in the mountain life, and a large part of the social scene was rotating casual dinners at friends' homes. Betsy was always asked, it seemed, to bring dessert, and she started to bake brownies. Her first experiment off the beaten path was tossing in caramel and marshmallows. They were a smash hit! During this period, her health became an issue, and the brownies were what inspired Betsy to get out of bed and keep going.
Betsy then kept experimenting, and when she found a fantastic imported Belgian dark chocolate . . . that was it. Bingo!
To date, Rich Brownies is sporting 52 varieties of brownies, blondies, and lemon bars. Her best sellers so far at BFM are the champagne brownie and the Guinness brownie. Check out the website: www.richbrownies.com. We are thrilled to have Betsy with us this season.
