June 29, 2011: Dean H. Botjer, 76, a longtime resident of Bronxville, died at his home in North Venice, Florida, on June 20, after a long battle with heart disease.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Mickey) Leverone Botjer; his sister, Carol B. Maloney of Martha's Vineyard, MA, and Jackson Hole, WY; and his cousins, William Mallgraf, Jean Carbone Clinton, and Pete Anderson.
While living in Bronxville, the Botjers were members of The Reformed Church, where he was an usher captain for many years, a deacon, and a member of the great consistory. He was also involved in Republican party activities at the village and town level, and he and his wife were members of Shenorock Shore Club.
Mr. Botjer commuted to New York City, where he worked in the field of advertising and publishing.
After retirement, the Botjers moved to Hampstead, NC, and they were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC. While there, he was a deacon and a Stephen Minister.
Dean and Mickey were known for their involvement in many hands-on projects for the church and community, and they were particularly proud of their founding role in "Plant a Seed," a community garden where the children of four schools in Hampstead experienced the job and stewardship of caring for nature.
Two years ago, the Botjers moved to North Venice, Florida, where they became associate members of Venice Presbyterian Church and were very active in the life of that church.
Services were held at Venice Presbyterian Church in Florida on Tuesday, June 28. An internment service at the columbarium of The Reformed Church of Bronxville will be announced for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Dean and Mickey suggested that you search for someone in need and offer "help, comfort, and God's love."
