Jan. 15, 2014: Frederick L. Janes, age 75, of Madison, Ohio, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013, at Cardinal Woods Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Madison, Ohio.
Born on January 10, 1938, in Canton, OH, to Agnes Philomena (McGuinness) and Leslie Prentice Janes, he married Sandra Frazier on October 9, 1999, in Mentor, Ohio. Fred graduated from Bronxville High School in 1956 and served as a Navy Corpsman during the Vietnam War. He worked for Chase Brass and Caterpillar and then retired from Avery Dennison in 2007.
He was a stern yet sensitive father, and his children valued him as a life teacher giving them the skills to succeed. He loved working on his cars, camping, and traveling. His passion for history inspired him to pursue his family genealogy.
His is survived by his wife, Sandra Janes, of Madison; daughters, Kelly (Ron McQuaid) King, of Wickliffe and Stephanie (Henry) Harris, of Perry; son, David (Molly) Janes, of Cleveland; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Vera (Frank) Norton, of Illinois, Ann Conway and Mary Alice (George) McCombe, both of New York; brothers, Tom (Roseleen) Carroll, of Atlanta, GA, and Michael (Darlene) Carroll, of Wickliffe; and sister-in-law, Maureen Carroll, of New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Carroll.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the Fellowship United Church of Christ in Wickliffe, Ohio. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, East Central Division, 5555 Frantz Road, Dublin, OH 43017.
