Mar. 12, 2014: Longtime Bronxville resident Patricia Spooner Button passed away earlier this month in Texas, where she had moved after becoming ill. Her son, Robert, and daughter, Leslie, both predeceased her.
Pat was an associate broker for over forty years, first with Lawrence Management and then with Houlihan Lawrence. Cindy Landis, manager of the Bronxville Houlihan Lawrence office, said of her, "Pat was a rare individual, a Renaissance woman--elegant, knowledgeable, gracious with a quick wit. We will all miss her terribly."
Pat was also a handbell ringer at The Reformed Church of Bronxville. In commemoration of her, the Concert Ringers of The Reformed Church, who are giving a bell concert in the Edwards Room on Wednesday, April 23, at 10:00 am, will be dedicating this concert to the memory of their longtime member. "Everyone is welcome and the concert is free," said Lee Corbett, director of handbells.
According to her self-written description on LinkedIn, Pat attended Our Lady of the Lake High School in Texas and received a BA from The University of Texas at Austin majoring in languages and psychology. While there, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Sidney Lanier Literary Society, and Bow and Arrow. She enjoyed fencing and was in Spanish honors and Arts and Sciences honors, and she loved "pickup bridge between classes at the Student Union."
Before joining Lawrence Management, Pat was a director of public relations for fashion and beauty at Alexandra de Markoff, a division of Charles of the Ritz, and then an account executive for Almay and Vitabath. Her first job out of college, however, was as an emergency teacher for one year at the American school in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico, which she had attended as a child. She was fluent in Spanish, had some French and Portuguese, and understood Italian.
