Harold Charles Barnett, Longtime Resident of Bronxville, Dies December 11, 2014

Dec. 24, 2014: Harold Charles Barnett, 89, of Bronxville passed away on December 11 of natural causes.

Mr. Barnett was born on December 30, 1924, in Yonkers to Charles and Catherine Watson Barnett. He was the youngest and last to pass away of eight brothers, all of whom served simultaneously in World War II. Mr. Barnett served in the USN from 1942 to 1945, including a posting in the Aleutian Islands.

He married Rita Caruso, also a native of Yonkers, on June 15, 1946, in Mt. Carmel Church in Yonkers. He graduated from Pace College with a degree in accounting and went to work for the Conover-Mast Company in Manhattan. 

Later he worked for the Hearst Magazines Division of Hearst Corporation for over 20 years, from which he retired in 1991.

He was a longtime usher at St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville and a member of the New York Athletic Club, where he was an avid swimmer. Mr. Barnett was an avid golfer and was the genealogical expert for his entire extended family.

He is survived by two children, Paula Kennedy of Weaverville, North Carolina, and Christopher Barnett of Kansas City, and two grandchildren, Juliet, 11, and Evan, 9.
