Commemoration for 9/11 Victims to Be Held by Interfaith Council on Sunday, September 11
August 10, 2011: The Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe houses of worship are planning an event to remember those lost in 9/11--all the injured and all the heroes, particularly those in the greater Eastchester area.
The "Community 9/11 Commemoration" will be held on Sunday, September 11, at 3:00 pm at The Reformed Church of Bronxville located at 180 Pondfield Road in the Village of Bronxville.
Organized by BIC (Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe Interfaith Council), the civic ceremony will feature stirring music (including bagpipes), a community choir, commemorative readings, greetings from Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe community leaders, and a moving time of silent prayer and the ringing of the commemoration bell.
According to BIC co-chair Rev. Dr. Robert Hartwell of Village Lutheran Church, "The civic event is designed to bring all residents of the Town of Eastchester together in a solemn moment of remembrance and prayer."
BIC co-chair Rabbi Morris W. Barzilai of Sinai Free Synagogue expressed his hope that the service would be widely attended by clergy and laity of the Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe community. Barzilai added that "special recognition would be given to police, firefighters, and emergency personnel in our local community who continue to work on our behalf in challenging times."
Clergy from Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe (and congregations in surrounding areas that serve Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe residents) have been invited to process in the service and wear the vestments appropriate for their tradition.
Firefighters, police, and emergency personnel from Bronxville, Tuckahoe and Eastchester are also invited to attend in uniform and process with the clergy. Clergy and processing emergency personnel should arrive at 2:30 pm and gather in the Copenhaver Room of The Reformed Church of Bronxville.

Christ Church Bronxville
Christ Church Bronxville, or "CCBNY" as it's known in the community, is the village's Episcopal church, whose beginnings date back to 1898. The current church, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was completed in 1926 and was designed by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue, who also designed St. Bartholomew's in New York City and the Chapel at West Point.
CCBNY offers a wide array of programs to its parishioners, who live throughout southern Westchester. The acclaimed music program boasts five choirs; international outreach efforts to Cuba; and education and service programs for family members of all ages. Reformed Church of Bronxville
The Reformed Church of Bronxville is the community church in the heart of the village. We welcome people of all faiths and persuasions to be a part of our church family. St. Joseph’s Church
St. Joseph Church, which opened its doors in 1925, is the Catholic Church in Bronxville. It offers services on Saturday, Sunday, weekdays and Holy Days. It offers a religious education program for K - 8th grade which takes place on Wednesday during the school year. It also offers a myriad of opportunities for parishioners to meet, share ideas and experiences and help others. The St. Joseph’s School offers classes for K – 8th grade.

Village Lutheran Church
The Village Lutheran Church “is a ministry of word and sacraments. This ministry gives opportunities for witness, nurture, fellowship, stewardship and service.” The Chapel School, which goes from pre-school three-year olds through 8th grade, is an integral part of the Church’s ministry for children.

Sinai Free Synagogue
Sinai Free Synagogue is Westchester`s "newest" Reform congregation but its roots go back almost 100 years. Formed in 1999 by a merger of Mount Vernon`s Sinai Temple (founded in 1906 and the first Reform congregation in Westchester County) and the Free Synagogue of Westchester (founded in 1927), the 250-member congregation has a long, distinguished history.
