Oct. 9, 2024: Recently, 15 Scouts and 5 adult leaders from Bronxville Troop 5 set out on an unforgettable two-night adventure at Camp Hero located in Montauk, NY.

The trip was packed with excitement, hands-on learning, and outdoor fun. A major highlight was a fishing expedition aboard the Viking, where the Scouts caught so many fish that they eventually had to release some back into the ocean! That evening, the Scouts enjoyed incorporating their freshly caught fish into dinner, giving them the unique experience of preparing a meal from their own catch.

In addition to fishing, the Scouts hiked the scenic trails of Camp Hero, which took them through dense forest all the way to the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. During the hike, they explored historic World War II and Cold War-era structures, gaining insight into the area's rich history.

The trip was phone-free, encouraging Scouts to fully engage with their surroundings. They embraced the opportunity to explore, play football and frisbee, and enjoy the outdoors without the usual distractions.

Troop 5 is open to boys from 5th grade through 12th grade, and new members are welcome to join at any time.

Those interested in Scouting can attend a regular meeting to see what it's all about. Meetings are held every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Bronxville Scout Cabin, offering a great chance for potential Scouts to experience the fun, camaraderie, and valuable life skills that Troop 5 provides.

For more information or to visit a meeting, contact Scoutmaster Rob Deichert at scoutmaster@troop5.net.
