By Emily Levine, Bespoke
Nov. 10, 2021: Bespoke Education, nestled in the heart of our village since 2015, has provided the highest quality academic support through tutoring, classes, mock testing, and more for two decades in the New York area. Bespoke has also become a familiar presence at Bronxville High School, in part because of the semi-annual Junior Class mock testing fundraiser it hosts jointly with the PTA.
Laura Flannery Pettee, Parent Chair of this year’s Junior class and mother of four (including Katelin, currently a junior at Bronxville High School) had been part of this project for many years before joining Bespoke more formally in the fall of 2020, after a phone call from Westchester Director, Lee Klein. Impressed with Laura’s commitment to education, variety of skills, and warm personality, Lee reached out to her to join the Bespoke Team as an instructor in its newly formed elementary level POD program.
“I absolutely loved working with the POD,” Ms. Pettee stated enthusiastically. “Almost immediately, this small group felt like family. It was a unique, wonderful experience that became a silver lining of the pandemic.”
As a lifelong Bronxville resident, Laura collaborated with Bespoke’s K-5 Director, Emily Levine, to infuse many wonderful features of the community into the curriculum. This small group of Kindergarten and 1st graders often visited the Bronx River tributary, the train station, local businesses, and the library in order to bring topics of study to life. Laura was an invaluable guide on these sojourns, where the many friendly waves and hellos that were received revealed her long history in the community and connections to so many neighbors, residents, and friends.
A 1987 graduate of Bronxville High School, Laura elaborates on her long and deep connections to her hometown:, “My grandfather, Edward Spencer, lived in town, in addition, my mother Anne Flannery, and my husband, Jeff Pettee all graduated from our local high school.” Her strong ties to the community also include her work with the Bronxville School Foundation, the Athletic Council (where she serves as Co-Chair) and at Eliza Corwin Frost Child Center.
While Bespoke’s K-5 offerings have shifted in response to the needs of families as children return to full time in-person learning, Laura remains an integral part of the team. Individual and small group tutoring, daily after-school enrichment courses, and holiday camps are now being offered in addition to full and part-time learning pods in order to support children in the attainment of grade level benchmarks and accelerated academic goals.
Ms. Pettee and the rest of the team remain committed to the best personalized instruction for the children in Bronxville and beyond. Please reach out to learn more about our holiday academic camps that will run from December 27th-31st and Feb 21st-25th or any other of Bespoke’s K-5 programs.
