Letters to the Editor in Support of Natasha Nordahl for Bronxville Village Justice

To the Editor,
Mar. 11, 2020: As longtime residents of the Village with differing party affiliations and viewpoints, we write this letter in wholehearted support of Natasha Nordahl’s candidacy for Village Justice.
Natasha is eminently qualified for this position. A graduate of Packer Collegiate Institute, Duke University, and Brooklyn Law School, her legal skills and experience will make her an excellent Village Justice. She is a seasoned litigator with a broad knowledge of New York State court practice. Her membership on the Committee to select Judicial Hearing Officers, on which she serves with several judges and other prominent local attorneys in the 9th Judicial District (including Westchester County), further demonstrates her readiness for this position.
Natasha also understands the human side of the law. While she represented large corporations professionally, she is a dedicated volunteer in her local community, using her legal abilities to help others. Natasha volunteers weekly at the Supreme Court in White Plains, where she helps low-income litigants navigate the legal system.
Natasha also cares deeply about the Bronxville community, where she has lived with her family for nearly 20 years. She has volunteered at the Bronxville School, served on the Board of the Friends of the Bronxville Public Library, and is currently a member of the Village Planning Board. Her three sons attended the Bronxville School for a combined 31 school years.
Natasha is passionate about public service and would be the first woman to serve as Village Justice. We urge our fellow residents to support her historic election and ask for your vote on March 18.

Mar. 19, 2020: I am writing to endorse the election of Natasha Nordahl as Bronxville Village Court Justice because I have observed Natasha’s legal skills and her calm, compassionate demeanor in the context of helping those who are unfamiliar with the judicial system.
For several years, Natasha has been a regular and consistent volunteer for the Civil Legal Advice and Resource Office (CLARO) in Westchester County organized through the New York State Courts Access to Justice Program and Legal Services of Hudson Valley. Natasha attends weekly clinics to help low income New Yorkers navigate their options to resolve debts and respond to debt collectors.
In many cases, the clients who come to the clinic feel scared, embarrassed, stressed, confused, or overwhelmed. In every instance, Natasha helps them to organize and understand their situation. With even the most complicated facts, Natasha will break it down and sort it out.
In addition to legal skills and intelligence, Natasha has kindness and empathy for each individual who walks into the clinic. She knows that every one of them is unique and deserves to be treated with decency and respect. For each client, Natasha offers equal amounts of legal advice, common sense, and humanity.
It has been a privilege to volunteer alongside Natasha and see the impact she has made on the lives of so many people. Natasha Nordahl would be an excellent judge because she has the requisite legal acumen, and she would dispense justice with compassion, open-mindedness, fairness, and vigorous attention to detail.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
