Mar. 1, 2023: This past spring, Paul Dunphey was named Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the former NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital, now NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester. Dunphey also continues to lead NYP Allen Hospital in northern Manhattan.
Dunphey has been part of NewYork-Presbyterian for over 30 years. Over that time, he has served in leadership roles throughout the organization, including running the Ambulatory and Community Care Network (ACN) of NewYork-Presbyterian for 31 years.
In his current role, Dunphey leads day-to-day operations, with a particular focus on the patient experience, finances, operations, and relationship-building with staff, physicians, and the community. The hospital includes physicians from ColumbiaDoctors in a wide range of specialties and a cancer center. Dunphey points out that patients in Bronxville, Westchester, and other nearby areas can receive “world-class care” right here in Bronxville.
Since Dunphey took over as COO, there have been a number of changes, including changing the name of NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital to NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester. According to Dunphey, the new name “provides clarity on the hospital’s location and more closely aligns with the names of other hospitals across the NewYork-Presbyterian enterprise.” The hospital’s former name dates back to the hospital’s founding in 1909 by Willian Van Duzer Lawrence, who recognized the need for a community hospital after his son fell ill with appendicitis and had to make the long trip to New York City. Van Duzer’s son made a full recovery.
Another development at NYP Westchester is the opening of the Sports Performance Institute (SPI) and the Och Spine Program. The Och Spine Program includes orthopedic and neurosurgical spine surgeons and other spine care specialists who treat back and neck problems.
Last year, NYP-Westchester also forged a relationship with Iona College launching the New York Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences at the former Concordia College campus in Bronxville. This school will focus on collaborative health care education and on developing healthcare professionals.
In September of 2022, Dunphey was named one of the “2022 Westchester Power 100” by City & State New York.
Dunphey grew up in New Jersey and lives in Ridgewood today. He received his undergraduate degree from Providence College and his MBA from Baruch College. When not at work, Dunphey enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He also loves playing golf and running and is "a foodie." Don't ask him his favorite restaurant in Bronxville -- he is a fan of them all!
