Line for Covid testing at CityMD Urgent Care in Eastchester this week

By Staff

Updated Nov. 19, 2020, 6:52 PM:

Bronxville & Nearby

The Westchester County COVID-19 map for November 18 shows 18 active cases in Bronxville and 121 total cases. Last week, Bronxville had 12 active cases. A month ago (October 15), Bronxville had 2 active cases.

Of the 8,953 tests reported on November 18 in Westchester County, 399, or 4.4 percent, were positive

In a communication on November 19, Governor Cuomo provided updated information on New York's Covid-19 "micro-cluster focus zones."  There are now a number of areas fairly near Bronxville that are cluster zones. These include Tarrytown (Yellow), Ossining (Yellow), New Rochelle (Yellow) and Yonkers (Yellow).  All the maps of the current micro-cluster focus zones are available here.

New York City

On November 18, Mayor de Blasio announced that New York City schools will close starting November 19.  Over Twitter, he said, "New York City has reached the 3% testing positivity 7-day average threshold. Unfortunately, this means public school buildings will be closed as of tomorrow, Thursday Nov. 19, out an abundance of caution."

Mount Vernon

On November 15, 2020 , the City of Mount Vernon issued a Stay at Home advisory to protect residents and reduce the spread.  The advisory said  the following: "In recent weeks, Mount Vernon has experienced a double digit increase in daily COVID-19 cases. Our current active case count currently stands at 124 with 84 new cases added thus far in November. Therefore, the City of Mount Vernon strongly advises residents to stay inside their homes unless traveling for work, school or essential needs. The Mount Vernon COVID-19 taskforce will continue to enforce social distancing regulations and shut down businesses that fail to follow COVID-19 guidelines s well as educating the public about the importance of wearing masks. The Stay at Home advisory goes into effect on Monday, November 16th."

New York State

In a communication this week, Governor Cuomo reported that "cases are increasing throughout the state" and said "all New Yorkers, regardless of where they live, must take action to protect themselves and each other."

The Governor also put in place the following new restrictions:

-Bars, restaurants and gyms or fitness centers, as well as any State Liquor Authority-licensed establishment, are required to close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily. Restaurants will still be allowed to provide curbside, food-only pick-up or delivery after 10 p.m., but will not be permitted to serve alcohol to go

-Indoor and Outdoor Gatherings at Private Residences Will Be Limited to 10 People

Finally, the Governor urged continued vigilance and commitment to reducing the spread of the virus: "Wash your hands, stay socially distanced, wear a mask and limit or avoid gatherings. We're going to get through this pandemic, but only if we do it together and stay New York Tough."

Hospitals

NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital

In July 2014, Lawrence Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital established a new relationship aimed at enhancing care, improving access and lowering health care costs for residents of Bronxville and surrounding communities in Westchester County. Lawrence was renamed NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital.

Lawrence Hospital Center was founded in 1909 and is a 291-bed acute care facility with over 1100 employees and 400 physicians. It provides emergency care to approximately 35,000 individuals every year.   It became a designated New York State Stroke Center in 2006.  Its physicians provide expertise in virtually every area of medical specialty and include over 100 primary care physicians. And, Lawrence delivers about 2000 babies every year in the home-like setting of newly designed Labor and Delivery recovery rooms.

Outpatient services include diagnostic testing and laboratory services, ambulatory surgery options, and rehabilitation and sports medicine services. The Hospital has a Women`s Imaging Center where female patients receive diagnostic services in a private setting. Outpatient physical therapy, lymphedema therapy, speech and occupational therapy services are provided both on-site at the Hospital and at Lawrence`s satellite center, The Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, in Scarsdale.

The Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The Hospital is fully licensed by the New York State Department of Health. Lawrence`s laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists.
