Bronxville October Trustees Meeting: Restoring Street Signs, Planting Trees, Preventing Theft and More

By staff

Oct. 22, 2025: The Village of Bronxville held a Trustees Meeting on October 17, 2025.

Westchester District Attorney Susan Cacace, who lives in Bronxville, attended the meeting and spoke about her current role, which she began on January 1, 2025.  Prior to this, Cacace was an attorney for 30 years and spent 20 years as a Westchester County Judge.

She said that her initial focus was on filling 25 vacancies in the office, which typically has around 125 to 130 lawyers. That job has been accomplished.

She said that the Westchester District Attorney’s main office is in White Plains and that they also have seven district offices. The Mount Vernon office services Bronxville and Eastchester.

She spoke about the Special Prosecutor office that focus on sex crimes, and crimes against the elderly and children. She said the office is also improving its technology and incorporating AI.

She said that it is Important that they go out into the community and speak in schools and senior centers and attend community events.

She noted that the District Attorney’s office prosecutes crimes but also educates people to try to prevent crimes. They are also now offering alternatives to incarceration.

Preventing Thieves from Entering Cars and Homes

Cacace spoke about the “great” Bronxville police department and noted that there have been car thefts in Westchester and in Bronxville.  She reported that 20% of car thefts occur because people leave keys in the ignition. She advised people to lock cars and not leave key fobs near doors or windows in the house.

She also advised people to lock the doors to their homes because some thieves enter houses that are easiest to enter.

She said that the number of license plate readers and cameras in Bronxville is “second to none” and that these cameras help solve crimes.

Cacace has a bi-monthly newsletter that includes information about current scams and other items. You can sign up at Westchesterda.net

Stealing Mail

Mayor Mary noted that there have been people “fishing” in the mailbox in front of the Bronxville Post Office and that the police caught someone in Bronxville carrying $200,000 worth of checks, not from Bronxville but still alarming.

Mayor Marvin also advised people to mail letters inside the post office because the postal box outside has not yet been replaced with a more modern box that prevents thieves from reaching in and stealing mail. She noted that the box will be updated fairly soon.

Plants and Events

Mayor Marvin noted that many organizations are having their fundraisers. She said that the Senior Citizens had a fabulous fundraiser honoring the Reformed Church, which has given them space for free for 50 years.

Other items in her report included the following:

-The County recently took down an 8-foot tree that was growing in the middle of the duck pond in the Bronx River.

-The Boulder Ledge Garden Club will donate and plant Hydrangeas at Malby playground.

-The movie house will turn 100 this year. Please support it.

-The “Party of Kraft” and "Sidewalk Sale" were both great events.

-Jansen is having an event on October 29th.

-The Bronxville Trustees are having a joint dinner with the Tuckahoe board.

New Tennis Pros, Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers

Bronxville Village Administrator Jim Palmer noted that the Village has new tennis pros from Elite Racket Solutions that will run the Bronxville Village Tennis Program. The pros have also taught at Concordia and at the Bronxville Adult School. They will also offer paddle and pickleball sessions. The Village has implemented a new reservation system.  You can learn more on the Village’s website.

Palmer said that the Crawford Drainage Improvement Project started the week of October 17th. The goal is to reduce flooding in this area. They have worked closely with local gardening clubs, and the entire area will be restored after the project. More details on the project are on the village’s website.

Palmer said that gas-powered leaf blowers can be used from October 15 - December 15. He noted that historically there has been a lot of use of blowers outside of this period and the village will be taking measures such as fines to reduce usage when it’s not permitted.

He reminded residents not to put leaves in the street or near the catch basins. He said that there are some upcoming paving projects.

Trustee Mary Behrens thanked NYP Westchester who recently provided free flu shots at Village Hall.

Restoring Bronxville's Historic Street Signs, and Planting Trees

Trustee Fredericks spoke about a $125,000 donation from the Bronxville Historical Conservancy to support Bronxville Village’s completion of Phase 2 of the restoration and remaking of Bronxville’s historic street signs.

Fredericks also talked about the Village’s tree planting project. In the meeting, the Village approved $75k to support the planting of new trees in the Village subject to specific criteria and accepted an additional $75k contribution from the Bronxville Historical Conservancy for this project.

Fredericks noted that the Village now has a "Right-of-Way Tree Planting Policy" to help support planting new trees. You can read the policy on the Village's website.

Halloween

Mayor Marvin noted that the Halloween Parade is on Friday October 24 at 4:15 starting at the Bronxville School flagpole and continuing through the business district.

Comments

Five individuals spoke about the question of moving Bronxville Village Elections from March to November. Four spoke in favor and one spoke against because she was concerned it would “change things” and wanted more time to examine the issue.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
