Nov. 2, 2022: November 8th is Election Day. Early voting is currently underway and will run until November 6th. Below is some information on who's running for Governor, the Senate and Congress.
Governor
The candidates for Governor of New York are Kathy Hochul and Lee Zeldin. There was a debate between the two candidates on October 25th. Click here to see the debate.
Kathy Hochul (Democrat, Working Families) and incumbent
Kathy Hochul is a graduate of Syracuse University and has a law degree from Catholic University. She began her legal career at a large Washington law firm and also worked as legal counsel and legislative assistant to Senator Patrick Moynihan. From 2011 to 2013, she was a member of Congress for NY’s 26th Congressional District and from 2015-2021 she served as Lieutenant Governor of New York State. She became the first female Governor of New York State in 2021, upon the resignation of Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Lee Zeldin (Republican, Conservative)
Lee Zeldin grew up in Suffolk County, New York and currently lives in Shirley with his wife and two daughters. Zeldin graduated from William Floyd High School, the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY) and Albany Law School. He completed the Army ROTC program and served four years on Active Duty. He opened a law practice in Smithtown, New York in 2008 and was elected to the New York State Senate in 2010, representing New York's 3rd Senate District. In 2014, Zeldin was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York’s First Congressional District.
Senate
The candidates for the Senate in New York are Charles "Chuck" Schumer, Joe Pinion and Diane Sare. Pinion and Schumer faced off in a debate on October 31st. See debate here.
Charles "Chuck" Schumer (Democrat, Working Families) and incumbent
Charles "Chuck" Schumer is a long-standing politician and current US Senator. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and still resides there. He graduated from James Madison High School, Harvard University and Harvard Law School. He is married and two daughters, Jessica and Alison.
He served in the New York State Assembly from 1975-80 before being elected to Congress in 1980 at age 29, representing Brooklyn and Queens. He served in that role for 18 years. He was elected to the US Senate in 1998 and then re-elected in 2004, 2010 and 2016. He is the senior US Senator from New York. The other U.S. senator from New York is Kristen Gillibrand, who has served in that role since 2009 and is up for reelection in 2027.
Joe Pinion (Republican, Conservative)
Joe Pinion grew up in Yonkers and graduated from Horace Mann High School (2001) and Colgate University (2006), where he played football. His worked primarily in non-profit healthcare and then in political journalism, including as host of "Saturday Agenda" on Newsmax. He was director of youth development at the Morris Height Health Center in the Bronx and has been a national spokesman for RePublicEN and DeployUS. RePublicEN is focused on "the power of American free enterprise and innovation to solve climate change." DeployUS is also working on issues related to climate change.
Diane Sare (LaRouche)
Diane Sare is originally from Maine and currently resides in Rockland County. She enrolled at Hamilton College and, after a year, transferred to New England Conservatory (NEC) to pursue a career in music. At that time, she got involved in the 1988 campaign for Lyndon LaRouche and met her future husband Christopher Sare, to whom she had be married for 33 years. In 2012 and 2014 she ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District in the Democratic Primary. She has written articles about the New York City homeless situation, the subway system, and other topics.
Congress
The candidates for the 16th Congressional District are Jamaal Bowman and Miriam Flisser.
Jamaal Bowman (Democrat, Working Families) and incumbent
Jamaal Bowman was born and raised in New York City and currently lives in Yonkers, New York with his wife and three children. He graduated from the University of New Haven, earned a master's degree in guidance counseling from Mercy College and a doctorate in education from Manhattanville College. He began his career as a crisis intervention teacher in a Bronx school. He also founded Cornerstone Academy for Social Action in the Bronx. He was principal of the school for 10 years. He was elected to Congress in 2021.
Dr. Miriam Levitt Flisser was raised in the Bronx and attended the Bronx High School of Science and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She trained at Montefiore Hospital and has served on the Pediatric Faculty. She served as the Chief of Pediatrics for 15 years at Lawrence Hospital. She is the Medical Director of the Bronxville School District, St Joseph School, Chapel Lutheran School, Reformed Church Nursery School, and Horace Mann School in the Bronx. She lives in Scarsdale and has served as Mayor, Police Commissioner, Fire Commissioner, and member of the Village Board. Flisser and her husband have three adult children and seven grandchildren. She states the following on her website: "Being unaffiliated with any political party, I am honored to run as the Republican candidate in New York’s 16th Congressional District. As a pediatrician, not a politician, my motivation for running is helping steer America in the right direction to ensure the future for our children. Here are the issues that are critical to achieving that goal."

NYS Attorney General (vote for 1)
The candidates for New York State Attorney General are Letitia James, Democrat and Working Families (incumbent) versus Michael Henry, Republican and Conservative.
NYS Assembly (vote for 1)
The candidates for the New York State Assembly District 88 are Amy Paulin, Democrat and Working Families (incumbent) versus Thomas H. Fix, Republican and Conservative.
NYS Senate (vote for 1)
The candidates for the NY State Senate District 37 are Shelley Mayer, Democrat and Working Families (incumbent) versus Frank Murtha (Republican)
Clean Air, Clean Water and Green Jobs Bond Act
There will be another issue on the ballot on November 8th (and during early voting); namely, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to flip their ballots to the other side and vote “yes” or “no” for the “Clean Air, Clean Water, and Green Jobs Bond Act.” If approved by voters, the Bond act will greatly benefit New Yorkers. Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
