Saturday, September 19: The Village of Bronxville Police Department effected the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Brooklyn. He was charged with burglary in the second degree, a class C felony. The charge stems from an incident that occurred at Concordia College on September 17, 2015, when he unlawfully gained entry to the Rippe Hall dormitory and attempted to assault a 19-year-old female student. He reportedly donned a black ski-style mask after gaining entry to the building and then fled on foot carrying an object one witness reported to be a firearm.
Thursday, October 1, 2:30 am: A twenty-seven-year-old Yonkers man driving with a flat front tire and front-end damage was charged with driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher after he was stopped by Police Officer Michael Lewis at 2:30 am. The location where the damage occurred is still under investigation. The 2001 Honda Civic he was operating was impounded and he was released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance.
Saturday, October 3, 9:27 am: On Alden Place a police officer responded to a noise complaint. The upstairs neighbor complied with the officer's request to keep the noise level down.
Saturday, October 3, 3:53 pm: On Elm Rock Road a caller reported two males running from the backyard of a residence to an awaiting white van. Officers responded and were able to identify the subjects as construction employees who were leaving the residence at the end of their work day.
Sunday, October 4, 1:17 pm: On Hobart Street a 44-year-old female resident reported that three Verizon accounts had been opened in her name without her permission. The incident is under investigation.
Tuesday, October 6, 11:15 am: On Pondfield Road a motor vehicle accident occurred between two cars. There were no injuries. An information exchange was completed and assisted by responding officers.
Tuesday, October 6, 2:44 pm: In the Garden Avenue lot the parking meter repair officer reported that a parking meter had been tampered with and left disabled. The incident is under investigation.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
