Bronxville Police Blotter: November 3 to November 10, 2015

Tuesday, Nov. 3,
 8:45 pm:  The Bronxville police investigated a "light on the ground" behind the 64 Sagamore Road apartment building. Officers extinguished and discarded a burning candle that was left unattended.

Wednesday, Nov. 4, 8:44 pm:  There was a motor vehicle accident in the Cedar Street parking lot. No injuries were reported. An information exchange was completed.

Thursday, Nov. 5, 8:45 am:  On Paxton Avenue, Police Officer Michael Lewis charged a 37-year-old man from Yonkers with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree. His license was suspended for failing to answer a summons in White Plains. The 2005 Nissan Altima was impounded. The man was released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance.

Thursday, Nov. 5, 11:52 am:  At Capital One Bank it was reported that $3,680.00 had been fraudulently removed from a bank account. The incident is under investigation.

Friday, Nov. 6, 4:38 am:  A driver for Bronxville Taxi became involved in a verbal dispute with a customer. The issue was resolved. No police action was necessary.

Saturday, Nov. 7, 11:24 pm:  Police Officer Lauralee Ulrich found a backpack on Elm Rock Road and returned it to its owner.

Sunday, Nov. 8, 1:20 am:  A verbal dispute between a mother and her 18-year-old daughter occurred because the daughter had come home after curfew. A domestic incident report was prepared.

Monday, Nov. 9, 12:39 am:  On Parkway Road, Police Officer Steve Valentin charged a 29-year-old male from Perth Amboy, New Jersey, with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree (Misdemeanor) after he had been stopped for a stop sign violation. His license currently has 13 suspensions in 6 different jurisdictions for failure to answer summonses. He was released on $250 maximum bail pending his next court appearance. The 1996 Toyota Corolla he was operating was impounded.

Tuesday, Nov. 10, 10:19 am:  On Pondfield Road, a verbal dispute occurred between two business owners. The dispute was resolved. No crime was committed.

Tuesday, Nov. 10, 3:23 pm:  A resident received threatening text messages regarding a prior motor vehicle accident. The sender was advised to have contact only with the insurance company.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
