Sep. 21, 2016: The tenth annual Garrett Park Neighborhood Association Block Party and Flea Tag Sale will take place on Saturday, September 24 (rain date--Sunday, September 25) from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Look for the balloons by the Palmer Avenue bridge and the Pondfield Road bridge (by the Pondfield Café) to lead the way.
The event includes tag sale tables featuring a wide assortment of finds from neighbors who are clearing treasures from closets, folks who are making room for the new, some crafters, and usually a professional exhibitor or two. Once again, our grill team will be offering hot dogs, burgers, etc., at nominal prices. Entertainment, back by popular demand, will begin at noon.
The event takes place on the portion of Parkview Avenue that runs between Palmer Road and Pondfield Road West (Bronxville/Yonkers border). The entrances are from Palmer Road (directly opposite the southbound entrance to the Bronx River Parkway) and from Pondfield Road West (the walkway by the doctors' offices and the Pondfield Café). Automobile traffic and parking will be suspended on Parkview from Garrett Place to Pondfield Road West in order to allow for safe browsing. Tables and chairs are set up so everyone can eat, relax, and people watch, in addition to exploring the treasures that line the street. It is a very fun day!
Any funds raised are used to support neighborhood projects such as the Bridge Gardeners, who create the beautiful gardens by the Palmer Road and Pondfield Road West bridges. The association also supports the planters located on a retail portion of Pondfield Road West, and it collaborates with the Armour Villa and Longvale Homeowners Neighborhood Associations on a variety of common interests and concerns.
The Garrett Park Neighborhood Association has been a grassroots organization for more than 20 years. The association represents the area encompassing apartments, both cooperative and rental, on Parkview Avenue (Parkview Avenue to Palmer Road), Bronxville Road (Kimball Avenue to Pondfield Road West), and Pondfield Road West (Bronxville Road to Parkview Avenue). The group, made up of representatives from the member buildings, meets on a regular basis throughout the year.
The objective of the Garrett Park Neighborhood Association is to continue to enhance the quality of life for residents of the area. Over the years the association has been addressing such local interests as beautification, safety, and sanitation, as well as fostering a sense of community.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
