Bronxville Police Blotter: September 19 to September 30, 2016

Monday, September 19,
 12:22 pm, Midland Avenue and Pondfield Road: The traffic lights were out of order for a period of time because of a power outage. Police officers handled traffic control and DPW replaced the lights with portable stop signs until power was restored. 

Tuesday, September 20, 12:34 am, Northway Road: A motor vehicle accident occurred. There were no injuries. An information exchange was completed. 

Wednesday, September, 7:41 pm, Parkway Road:  A UPS package containing personal documents was stolen in front of a building. 

Thursday, September 22, 8:17 am, Pondfield Road: A homeowner reported that a navy blue van bearing a Connecticut license plate had pulled into her driveway and backed out when she attempted to approach the van. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle, which left before they were notified. 

Thursday, September 22, 8:33 am, Greenfield Avenue: A homeowner reported a suspicious vehicle. Officers located the vehicle, which was owned by a contractor who was working at a local residence.  

Sunday, September 25, 7:55 pm, Courseview: A resident reported two suspicious males in the area.  Officers interviewed the individuals, who were passing through from the Eastchester dog park. No crime was committed. 

Monday, September8:33 pm, Palmer Avenue at Paxton Avenue: Officers assisted a bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle. The bicyclist refused medical attention and a report and left the scene of his own accord.

Tuesday, September 27, 6:50 pm, Pondfield Road: A 30-year-old man from Mount Vernon was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree after being stopped for passing through a red light. The man was processed on scene and released pending his next court appearance. The 2007 Mercedes Benz he was operating was impounded. 

Thursday, September 29, at 9:25 am, Edgewood Lane: A homeowner reported that a suspicious male had rung her doorbell and stated that he was fundraising for the Immaculate Conception School. The homeowner confirmed that ICS was not performing a fundraiser involving candy sales. The incident is being investigated. 

Friday, September 30, 2:20 pm, Sunnybrae Place: A homeowner reported that a Sprint Wireless account had been opened in her name. The incident is being investigated.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
