Friday, Oct. 14, 11:20 pm: There was a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Pondfield Road. There were no injuries. An information exchange was completed.
Sunday, Oct. 16, 7:01 am: On Tanglewylde Avenue, Bronxville police officers retrieved an abandoned house cat that was left on the side of the road in a carrier. The cat was taken to the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter.
Monday, Oct. 17, 11:03 am: On Hobart Street, a female resident reported that a Sprint account had been fraudulently opened in her name and that there was an outstanding balance of $4,000.00.
Monday, Oct. 17, 4:05 pm: On Pine Terrace, a female resident reported that an unknown male was walking around the property at her neighbor’s residence. Officers canvassed the area with negative results. The incident is being investigated.
Tuesday, Oct. 18, 12:58 am: A Park Avenue resident reported that a black male was inside the resident’s Mercedes Benz, which was parked in the driveway. Officers responded and the suspect fled on foot. Westchester County Police K9 responded to the scene to assist in tracking the individual, who evaded the officers but appeared to be stuck inside their established perimeter. At 5:10 am, Police Officer Michael Lewis of the Bronxville Police Department discovered the individual on Beverly Road and began chase. The suspect fled toward the train tracks behind Kensington Road. At 5:26 am, with the assistance of the Eastchester Police Department and the Tuckahoe Police Department, a 48-year-old man of Yonkers was taken into custody. He was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree and Criminal Trespass in the 3rd Degree. He was arraigned by Bronxville Justice George Mayer and remanded in lieu of $15,000 cash bail pending his next court appearance.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
